Hello Modesto Swimmers!

As the 2026 Spring/Summer season winds down - I close on 10/10 and am fully booked until then - Unsinkable You will be taking some time off for the holidays and will resume Tuesday, January 12, 2027 for swim lessons at local gyms with heated pools. I will start taking requests to schedule on Saturday, November 14, at 10am.

Winter Rates, starting Tuesday January 12, 2027:

$50 for 50 minutes.

Packages of 6 are offered at:

$285 for 6, 50 minute lessons.

Schedule: Every Tuesday and Thursday, 5pm-8pm and every 2nd and 4th Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5pm.

FAQ’s

1. What is your methodology? I prefer that students learn a healthy respect of the water and are safe in it and learn to have fun. I roughly base my lessons on the American Red Cross lessons and meet students where they are. I don’t submerge a frightened student. Safety and comfort first, then technique and then speed.

2. Can I wear goggles? For kids - I’d require they get used to swimming without goggles. It really becomes a safety concern too. Once a child gets to a certain level of proficiency, I will allow them - with occasional short swims without goggles. Adult students may wear goggles or any other accessory they wish. If adults wear contacts, goggles are necessary.

3. What if my child cries? Crying is totally normal - the water is foreign! If they are crying in a very traumatized way after 2 or 3 lessons, then I will suggest waiting another season. This is not all for naught - a truly fearful child will likely stay away from the water. I will not submerge a severely frightened student.

4. What should I bring? Please come dressed in your swimsuit and bring a towel, and change of clothes if you’d like. If you have long hair, a swim cap is preferred, or tying it back is fine. If there will be younger siblings who will be waiting, perhaps some snacks and games?

5. Can I leave while my child is having a lesson? Absolutely not. I may ask you to stay out of our range of vision if there any severe or manipulative attachment behaviors taking place. This is also a safety requirement. There are no lifeguards.

6. What about discipline? My lessons are like baseball. I explain the rules - walking, listening and good effort. I’ll give two warnings and then on strike three, they sit out for a minute.

7. Do you offer refunds? Yes, it’s on a case by case basis.

8. What’s you cancelation policy? I need a 24 hour notice.

***Registration for 2027 - mid-May thru early October - will open for DIY online registrations on March 6, 2027 at 10am - rates and times tbd (whether you book with me, or someone else, do it in March/April as the Valley has a shortage of swim lessons). I have been teaching for about 30 years and teach private/semi-private lessons out of my home in Modesto off Coffee/Sylvan to anyone toilet trained!***
